The name "South Bay" is that it south along the coast of Santa Monica Bay, which forms the western boundary extends. A generally accepted definition includes the South Bay, El Segundo, the cities on the beach (Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach), and Torrance. Hawthorne, Lawndale, Lomita, and could certainly be included if you want to grow. Gardena and Carson City intersections into account. Be included Palos Verdes Peninsula (Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, y) in the South Bay, but people in general that the area "called the peninsula" or simply "PV".
There is no area called "North Bay" for the same reason you are not "East Virginia" or "Old Hampshire" ... simply not mentioned.
